SUMMARY:America 250
DESCRIPTION:IRIS will host America 250 Event\, a community celebration recognizing the contributions of immigrants and refugees to Connecticut and the United States\, and celebrating 250 years of welcoming immigrants\, democratic governance\, and civil liberties. Held as part of the nationwide America 250 initiative\, the event will bring together community members\, civic organizations\, artists\, advocates\, and local partners for a day of learning\, civic engagement\, culture\, and community connection. \nThe event will feature live entertainment\, food vendors\, an art exhibit and craft fair\, voter registration opportunities\, a citizenship test challenge\, and a citizen advocacy workshop. Attendees will also have the opportunity to participate in the 250 Immigrant Stories Project\, an initiative designed to collect and preserve stories that reflect the diverse experiences and contributions of immigrants in Connecticut. The event is free and open to the public and welcomes individuals and families of all backgrounds. \nAs a host organization\, IRIS staff\, volunteers\, and community partners will facilitate educational activities\, civic engagement opportunities\, cultural programming\, and community resource sharing. The event will highlight the role immigrants and refugees play in strengthening Connecticut’s communities while encouraging dialogue\, participation\, and belonging. \nCommunity partners include America 250 Connecticut\, IKEA\, the City of New Haven\, the Connecticut Commission on Human Rights and Opportunities (CHRO)\, Arts Council of Greater New Haven\, the League of Women Voters of Connecticut\, the ACLU of Connecticut\, and Sanctuary Kitchen. \nContribute to our 250 Immigrant Stories Project!\nSubmit a Logo Design to our Run For Refugees 20th Anniversary Logo Design Contest!\n
